July 26, 2013 — Donald Maurice will give a webinar discussing the latest legal issues pertaining to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act on Aug. 6, and again on Aug. 20, both at 2 p.m.

The webinar will cover recent decisions on predictive dialers, preview dialers and other technology, look at the varied interpretations of prior express consent from around the country and discuss the theories that are holding companies liable for their agents’ calls to cell phones. Maurice will also break down developments at the FCC and the impact some forthcoming rulings may have on TCPA liability.

July 23, 2013 — Donald Maurice will give a webinar July 25, entitled “Ethics as the Cornerstone of a Compliance Management System.” Maurice will be presenting with Chris Lagow, deputy general counsel of Portfolio Recovery Associates.

The webinar will explain how creditors can create a culture of compliance within their organization using tools that are already in their office. The webinar will provide members of DBA International with two credits toward DBA certification and will fulfill their ethics requirement.

July 14, 2013 — Donald Maurice will speak about vicarious liability claims against creditors as a result of the actions of their vendors at the annual meeting of ACA International in San Diego, Calif. on July 15.

Maurice and attorney David Schultz of Chicago, Ill. will evaluate the theories of direct and indirect liability as they relate to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and will discuss the implications of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s “service provider” requirements and its recent enforcement activity.

July 10, 2013 — Donald Maurice will participate in a webinar on July 11, at 2 p.m. about the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Revealing the TCPA: Realities and Myths of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act is being hosted by NARCA.

Maurice will be speaking with David Kaminski of Carlson & Messer, LLP about current trends in TCPA litigation, the difference between debt collection calls and telemarketing calls, prior express consent and the varying interpretations of an “automatic telephone dialing system.”
