Maurice Wutscher’s Donald Maurice Named Regent of American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers

April 19, 2017 — Maurice Wutscher Partner Donald Maurice has been appointed to serve a four-year term on the governing Board of Regents of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers.

Maurice was inducted as a fellow of the college in 2015. Fellows are nominated by members of the college for their skill and expertise in the field of consumer financial services law and for their notable contributions to the promotion of learning and scholarship among their peers through lecturing and published writings.

Maurice provides counsel to the financial services industry, successfully litigating matters in state and federal courts in individual and class actions. He has argued before various U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, and has been retained as counsel for amicus curiae in the U.S. Supreme Court and in the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals.

He counsels clients in regulatory matters and in the development and testing of compliance management systems. In addition to being a frequent speaker and author on consumer financial services law, he serves as legal counsel to Receivables Management Association and as chair of the ABA’s Debt Collection Practices and Bankruptcy Subcommittee, Business Law Section.

The American College of Consumer Financial Service Lawyers was founded in 1996 as a professional association of lawyers skilled and experienced in handling consumer financial services matters and dedicated to the professional development and ethics of its attorneys. Membership is by invitation only.

Maurice Wutscher Adds Mortgage Lending Attorney Philip H. Franklin

April 18, 2017 — National financial services law firm Maurice Wutscher LLP has added mortgage lending attorney Philip H. Franklin as a partner in its San Diego office.

Franklin has more than 20 years of experience in the residential mortgage lending and servicing industry. For more than 15 years, he represented various consumer lending institutions as in-house counsel, including one of the largest non-depository mortgage lender-servicers and one of the largest former non-prime mortgage lender-servicers in the country. He has also been an active participant in state and federal legislative affairs for and on behalf of the residential mortgage lending industry.

Franklin is licensed to practice law in California and Maryland, and is admitted to the federal courts in California. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), a law degree from Southwestern University School of Law, and a Certificate of Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute, Pepperdine University School of Law.
