Webinar: Maurice Wutscher’s Donald Maurice to Speak on Amendments to NYC’s Debt Collection Rule

Oct. 28, 2024 — Maurice Wutscher attorney Donald Maurice will join a panel of speakers to discuss the amendments to New York City’s debt collection rule during an RMAI webinar Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 12 pm ET.

On Aug. 12, the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection published its long-awaited amendments to the city’s debt collection rule. This webinar brings together a panel that will discuss these complicated amendments including the monthly log requirements, validation requirements, communication restrictions, expanded itemization requirements, time barred debt requirements, foreign language requirements, and medical debt limitations among other sections.

Oct. 15, 2024 — Maurice Wutscher attorney Donald Maurice will review the steps companies should take to protect themselves following a data breach at the 19th Annual Credit and Collection News Credit Grantor Consortium in Denver on Oct. 24.

The financial sector suffered the most data breaches of any industry in 2023 according to a recent article in Fortune Magazine. Mr. Maurice will discuss what is driving this trend in the debt collection space and what companies should do following a data breach, including common mistakes to avoid and best practices to follow. The presentation will include case studies, compliance takeaways, and the responses by federal and state regulators.

Mr. Maurice will also provide an update on New York City debt collection rules.
