Maurice Wutscher’s Donald Maurice to Discuss Uniform Consumer Debt Default Judgments Act at 2024 NACARA Conference

Sept. 26, 2024 — Maurice Wutscher attorney Donald Maurice will discuss the Uniform Law Commission’s Uniform Consumer Debt Default Judgments Act at the annual conference of the North American Collection Agency Regulatory Association on Oct. 2 in Sacramento.

Adopted by the Uniform Law Commission in July, the Act would materially modify existing procedures for obtaining default judgments on many types of consumer debt, including new notice requirements and the inclusion of certain documents and data in judgment applications. On Feb. 13, a bill was introduced in Colorado that would adopt the Act, and it is anticipated several states will follow.

Sept. 19, 2024 — Maurice Wutscher attorneys Donald Maurice and Shannon Miller will speak on data security compliance and medical debt regulation at the 2024 Mid-America Collection Conference in Fort Worth, Sept. 23-25.

Maurice Wutscher’s Donald Maurice Appointed Chair of New York City Bar Association’s Consumer Affairs Committee

Sept. 3, 2024 — Maurice Wutscher partner Donald Maurice has been appointed chair of the New York City Bar Association’s Consumer Affairs Committee. He will serve a three-year term on the committee whose mission is to provide a forum where those interested in all aspects of consumer affairs can share ideas and influence statutory reform.

The City Bar’s Consumer Affairs Committee examines consumer protection issues on the national, state and local levels, providing comment on public policy and legislation and organizing career development, continuing legal education and networking programs, often in collaboration with other City Bar committees.

“The Consumer Affairs Committee has played an important role in educating lawyers and the public on New York’s cutting-edge consumer protection laws along with policy and regulation at the federal level,” Mr. Maurice said. “It is an honor to work with the committee’s diverse group of thought leaders.”
